作品についてAbout the work

Fading Parallax

The human eye and the camera work the same way: light comes in through a lens, a sensor receives it, and it is processed into an image.

In Fading Parallax I turned my own way of seeing into a camera — the quirks of my eyesight, the offset between my two eyes (parallax), and the limits of what I can grasp.

Exaggerated too far, the offset loses its meaning and the image fades. But along the way, what should be visible disappears and what should be invisible appears — a work that questions how certain our seeing really is.

Fading Parallax apparatus

The work uses a handmade “compound-eye lens.” It reproduces the movement and eyesight of my own eyes, but is built to make the parallax deliberately large.

The photographs capture that parallax gradually fading, and the boundary where it disappears. The video shows how the lens works.
